Home and Dry passes 50,000 completions
Our free water safety course, Home and Dry, has now been completed by more than 50,000 people. We are enormously proud of that number, and we want to explain why it matters so much to us.
We are a search and rescue team. We respond when someone is already in danger, and we have seen too many situations that did not need to happen. The dog walker who tried to cross a flooded stream. The swimmer who did not know that cold water can incapacitate a strong adult in under a minute. Home and Dry exists because we would rather spend our time in a classroom than in the river.
The course is free, it takes 20 to 30 minutes, and it covers the things most people never learn until it is too late: how cold water affects the body, where the hidden dangers are in rivers, canals and reservoirs, how to help someone in trouble without becoming a casualty yourself, and what to do in the minutes before the ambulance arrives. Complete it and you receive a certificate with your name on it. Schools use it alongside our classroom visits, care homes use it to train staff, and thousands of people have simply taken it at their kitchen table.
Home and Dry was born from tragedy. The families who lost Shane Walsh in 2017 and Tom Jones in 2018 chose to turn their grief into campaigning, and their courage is the reason this programme exists. Every completion honours that.
Fifty thousand people now know how to recognise danger near water and what to do about it. Our aim is simple: to make that number bigger, one person at a time. The course is waiting, and it costs nothing.
